Protest Eminent Domain Abuse at Atlantic Yards
Mega-developer Bruce Ratner and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg will celebrate the opening of Barclay’s Center on September 21, 2012. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will make no mention of how the government used eminent domain to kick Daniel Goldstein and hundreds of other home and business owners out of their neighborhood in order to clear the way for Ratner’s scheme. It will pretend “No one will care what we had to do to make it happen,” as Mayor Bloomberg infamously claimed during the neighborhood demolitions.
But people do care. It’s time for property owners and liberty lovers everywhere to remind the city, the state, and the nation what happens when developers team up with their politician-friends to abuse private property rights. Perfectly-fine homes and businesses are bulldozed, plans for different housing and retail space to replace them fall through, and government-backed plans to force development fail to fulfill promises.
Ratner and Bloomberg may think they can whitewash history, but Daniel Goldstein is determined to not let that happen. Join him and other Brooklynites to tell government officials to stop eminent domain abuse. The list of events is below.
