"Baldwin Park is not for sale!"

Protesters in Baldwin Park, Calif., held a protest last night against the threat of eminent domain for local redevelopment projects. More than two hundred residents got notices from city officials just after Christmas. According to the notices, property owners have until the end of March to accept the city’s offer or else face condemnation. According to a San Gabriel Valley Tribune story from last month (and already archived on the paper’s site), city officials are also trying to rush this through, trying to get this all done before Californians have a chance to vote on eminent domain reform later this year and possibly pass an initiative that would prohibit these kinds of land grabs.
